Required Tools & Safety Gear
Before starting, ensure you have the standard woodworking tools and protective equipment ready:
  • Miter saw (equipped with carbide-tipped blades)

  • Safety glasses & work gloves
Step 1: Substructure & Joist Preparation
A solid, level, and well-drained foundation is the ultimate prerequisite to ensure the Heavy-Duty performance of your deck.
  • Ground Requirements: The concrete base must have a 1% to 2% slope to ensure proper water drainage. Never install joists directly on top of soil or standing water.
  • Joist Spacing (Span): For our 23mm thickness heavy-duty boards, the maximum center-to-center joist spacing must not exceed 350mm for residential projects, and 300mm for high-traffic commercial engineering applications.
  • Joist Fixing: Secure the WPC or metal joists to the concrete foundation using expansion anchors spaced approximately every 500mm.
Step 2: Allowing for Thermal Expansion
WPC material naturally undergoes minor linear expansion and contraction due to ambient temperature shifts. Leaving precision gaps completely prevents future decking buckling or warping.
  • End-to-End Gap (Butt Joints): When two board ends meet, leave a longitudinal expansion gap of 3mm to 5mm, depending on the installation site temperature.
  • Side-to-Side Gap: This is automatically controlled by our specialized hidden plastic or stainless steel clips (usually 4mm to 6mm).
  • Perimeter Gap: Leave a safety perimeter gap of at least 10mm between the decking edges and any fixed structures (such as walls or posts).
Step 3: Installing the Starter Boards & Hidden Clips
  • The First Board: Secure the outer edge of the very first 148mm board using starter clips, or by pre-drilling and face-screwing at an angle into the underlying joist.
  • Clip Insertion: Slide the hidden fastener clips into the side groove of the first board. Align the clip screw hole with the center of the underlying joist and drive the screw halfway in (do not tighten completely yet).
  • Interlocking Progression: Align the side groove of the second 148mm board with the exposed side of the installed clips. Push the board firmly until it fits tightly and evenly. Once alignment is verified, fully tighten the screws from the previous row to lock them down. Repeat this process row by row.
Step 4: Edge Trimming & Finishing Touches
To achieve a highly professional, clean, and premium architectural look, seal the exposed outer edges.
  • Fascia Board Installation: Fix a matching WPC fascia board or L-shaped corner trim along the exposed perimeter edges of the deck layout.
  • Pre-Drilling Rule: When fixing the fascia trim, always pre-drill pilot holes before driving in the dual-threaded stainless steel screws to prevent the WPC material from splitting under stress.
